Rule Mode

Routes each request by the rules in the profile and is the best default for daily use.

Rule

What Rule Mode means

Rule Mode evaluates the profile rules from top to bottom. When a request matches a rule, Clash sends it to the configured policy, such as DIRECT, REJECT, a specific proxy node or a proxy group.

It does not mean every website goes through a proxy. A well-maintained profile usually sends local and domestic services direct while routing selected traffic through proxy groups.

When to use Rule Mode

If only one website has a problem, do not switch the entire client to Global immediately. Check logs, update the profile, and confirm whether the selected proxy group has a working node.

Usage notes

Before changing modes, confirm that the subscription profile has updated successfully and that the selected policy group contains at least one usable node.

Recommended use

  • Use Rule Mode as the normal daily mode.
  • Update subscriptions and rule providers before changing custom rules.
  • Remember that Rule Mode depends on rule quality and policy group selection.
